What is a statutory audit?
A statutory audit is an audit required by law, for example for companies under the Companies Act, 2013 and for LLPs where the LLP law requires it. The auditor examines the financial statements and reports on them.
When is a tax audit needed?
A tax audit under the income-tax law depends on turnover or receipts and other conditions. Limits are amended from time to time, so the current provisions for the year should be checked.
What documents does an auditor usually need?
Commonly the books of account, bank statements, vouchers and supporting records, statutory registers and returns, and details of loans, fixed assets and related-party transactions. The list depends on the entity and the audit.
